"Letter to My Body" - Monsoon Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity
April 25 - May 1, 2019

Exhibition Description:

In honor of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, "Letter To My Body" showcases over 100 anonymous letters collected from the community by Monsoon--a non-profit working with victim-survivors of gender based violence from the Asian and Pacific Islanders communities statewide across Iowa.

The idea of this project is for people to write a letter to their body, be it what they like and appreciate, to things they dislike and are ashamed of. The intention is to highlight how culture, gender norms, and taught beliefs impact sexism, sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence.

Exhibit Discussion Panel & Workshop - Saturday, April 27th at 10am

Monsoon Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity invites you to step forward and show how much your body means to you by participating in the "Letter To My Body," panel discussion and letter-writing workshop. Children are welcome and can join in a separate workshop, which will be conducted as a recreational activity. Refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public. Letters will be screened for appropriateness. Anonymous letters collected from the community will be on display from April 25 through May 1.
