"Reflections: Photography as a Contemplative Experience" - Eva Jade Landon

Exhibition Description:

This exhibit explores what Landon calls “contemplative photography.” As a religious scholar, and five precepts Upāsikā, she seeks use her work to as a method to engage the viewer in contemplation. Each photo is accompanied by a brief meditation, calling for a pause of reflection. She believes the job of a photographer isn’t always to unveil something new and different; often it is simply to reveal what’s always been present – to remind us what we’ve forgotten to see.

Artist Biography:

Eva Jade Landon, M.A. has completed graduate studies in both Religion and Art History. She believes art, and nature, is a window to the divine. The job of a photographer isn’t always to unveil something new and different; often it is simply to reveal what’s always been present – to remind us what we’ve forgotten to see.

Her work has been featured in several group art shows at Jones Gallery and Paper Birch Landing in Kansas City, Missouri. She has done solo exhibitions at One More Cup in Kansas City and St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre in St. Peters, Missouri. She has participated in a variety of events, including the 2019 Waukee Arts Festival. Landon’s photograph, “Wooden Houses, Norway” won “Best of Show” in the 2018 Photography/Digital Art Competition with Contemporary Art Gallery Online. Her work is scheduled to be featured in their online gallery, as well as Jones Cyber Gallery, an extension of Jones Gallery in Kansas City. She has also collaborated with Frameography in Hutchinson, KS, to make custom framed photos available for purchase in their local shop.
