The Waukee Public Library Board is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees. The trustees are appointed by the Mayor for a three-year term, limited to two consecutive terms. Residency in Waukee city limits is required for appointment.
The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for establishing Library policy, authorizing services provided by the Library, establishing the Library budget, and hiring the Library Director. Library Board members do not receive compensation for their services.
The Waukee Public Library Board of Trustees meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are open to the public. Agendas are posted 24 hours prior to the meeting.
The Waukee Public Library is a department of the City of Waukee and funded with Waukee resident property tax dollars. The Waukee Public Library provides materials, programs, and resources for all residents of Waukee and the surrounding communities.

Michelle Henderson
President
Michelle Henderson joined the Waukee Library Board of Trustees in July 2020. Michelle graduated from University of Iowa before living in Denver, CO and Richmond, VA. Michelle and her family settled down in Waukee in 2017. Michelle is involved in several community organizations in the Des Moines area. Contact: [email protected].

Melissa Marwedel
Vice President
Melissa Marwedel joined the Waukee Library Board of Trustees in July 2022. She graduated from UNI with a BA in elementary education and an MA in Education - School Library Studies. She is a teacher librarian for three elementary schools in Urbandale: Rolling Green, Karen Acres, and Valerius. She and her family have lived in Waukee since 2019. Contact: [email protected]

Anna Eichhorn
Treasurer
Anna Eichhorn joined the Waukee Library Board of Trustees in July 2022. She is a passionate people leader and change driver with over 20+ years of experience, primarily in the Insurance Industry. She leads Benefits Implementation at Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, working cross functionally within the organization. Anna previously delivered audit and risk-based solutions at a big four public accounting firm. She has a BA in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. Anna is involved in several community organizations, focusing her efforts on positively impacting the social determinants of health. Anna has resided in Waukee with her husband Jon for over 10 years. Board Member
Emily Schultz joined the Waukee Library Board of Trustees in July 2024. She is the Managing Director at BrokerTech Ventures and also serves on the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors. She is an avid reader, a member of multiple book clubs, and a passionate advocate for a strong Waukee community. Contact: [email protected].

Board Member
Lela Scott joined the Waukee Library Board of Trustees in July 2024. Lela Scott, originally from Iowa, moved to Waukee with her family in 2020. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Creighton University. As a nonprofit leader, Lela is dedicated to serving children and fostering future leaders. She values family time and maintains a tradition of Sunday dinners with her loved ones. In her free time, Lela enjoys being outdoors and spending quality time with family and friends.
