"A Season of Study" - Jane Shank
October 2 - 28, 2023

Exhibition Description:

Jane Elizabeth loves to paint outside in the fresh air—known as “plein air painting.” She participates in plein air competitions from early April into October. The winter season is set aside for studio painting. In this selection of her work, you can see how a sizeable final painting might emerge from small live color studies. This exhibit is a mixture of pastel and oil paintings that expand the live study into another work.

About the Artist:

Jane Elizabeth Shank grew up in the midwest, residing in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Wayland, Iowa. She always looks forward to summer vacations, still at a summer home on Madeline Island, Lake Superior. Jane paints in pastel, oil, and watercolor. She shares her views of Midwestern landscapes, Lake Superior, Madeline Island, France, and many other places she and her husband may “wander off” to.  It is common to find her expanding her knowledge and experimenting with other mediums to find new ways for her patrons to enjoy her work.
